Testimonials

“Really good driving school, teacher was very flexible with hours and always available. I only had about a month worth of lessons and still managed to pass. We were able to get lots of important techniques down and the lessons were really great value for money. Absolutely recommend!.”

Paloma

“Fantastic instructor! Only starting learning at the beginning of July and passed first time in the middle of October, with a lesson every week or so. Highly recommend as Mr Bassi has a very different teaching style to other driving schools/instructors as he keeps everything relaxed with friendly conversations whilst teaching you thoroughly, all topics were kept clear and concise. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is starting to learn how to drive..”

Charles

“A great driving instructor. Very calm and patient! Always tried his best to fit me in around my work schedule. He makes manoeuvres simple to understand and was especially good at helping me conquer my driving nerves. Would recommend to anyone starting out new or those with past experience wanting a refresher!!.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an automatic car and a manual car?

The main difference between a manual car and an automatic car are the gears and the number of pedals.

A manual car has gears the you need to change and three pedals – a clutch, brake and accelerator pedal. that you have change as you accelerate in a car.  When you are driving a manual car, you have to use both feet on the pedals, with one foot used for the clutch to allow you to change a gear in a manual car. An automatic car will automatically change your gears for you so you only have two pedals to use- a brake and accelerator and therefore you only need to use on foot, as you never use these two pedals at the same time.

Some people find it easier to learn to drive in an automatic car.

Should I have automatic driving lessons?

Some people find it easier to lean in an automatic car as you don’t have to learn how to change gears or how to use the clutch. This makes it a little easier than  learning to drive a manual car, which means that you might be able to take fewer lessons to pass your test. Fewer lessons means that you will be able to start driving sooner and  it could end up costing less than passing your test in a manual.

If you live in a busy built up area, where there is generally a lot of traffic, you are likely to find that you will spend a lot of time changing gears while you are learning and driving; once you have passed your test. Driving an automatic car is easier in heavy traffic as you don;t need to worry about gear changing.

It’s worth noting, that if you pass your test in an automatic, you will have an automatic-only licence and are only allowed to drive an automatic car. If you pass your test in a manual car you are licenced to drive both an automatic or a manual car If you wanted to to drive a manual car and you have an automatic-only license, you would need to take a driving test in a manual car.

What are the advantages of an automatic car?

As you don’t have to master changing gears and clutch control, some people will find it easier to learn in an automatic car.

You may also need fewer lessons to learn drive in an automatic compared to a manual car which can help to reduce the costs of passing your driving test.

Some people find them easier to drive, particularly in urban areas where there is a lot of stopping and starting.

Some people feel safer in an automatic car, particularly when starting the car on a slope.

What are the dis-advantages of an automatic car?

If you pass your test in an automatic car, you can only drive an automatic car. If you want to drive a manual car, you will need to take a second driving test in a manual car.

When your buying a car, there tend be fewer automatic cars available, compared with manual car and generally automatic cars can be more expensive than the equivalent manual car – check our Parker’ Guide on an automatic v manual cars.

This is likely change in the future, as most electric cars are automatic and their is little need to add a manual transmission to an electric car. As the growth in the availability and range of models of electric cars grow, it is likely that cost is likely to comparable with manual cars.
